Bold and bright statement earrings are everywhere at the moment, and this colourful thread and bead earrings DIY has a summery, tropical vibe that is perfect to craft your own! I’ve gone all out with the colours, but you could easily use different shades of the same colour for a more subtle version.
You will need:
-2x round links, like these 25mm Quicklinks
-2x Fishhook earrings
-2x Jump rings
-Selection of colourful beads, like these
-Chainnose and roundnose pliers
-Superglue or GS-Hypo Cement
How to make:
1. Tie one end of a 75cm length of embroidery thread to one of the Quicklinks, leaving the tail to tie off at the end.
2.Start wrapping the long end of thread around the link. Try to keep your tension tight and the wraps neat.
3.Keep going until you have covered the whole link then tie the ends together.
4.Put a tiny bit of glue (something that will sink in, like superglue or GS-Hypo cement) on the knot and allow to dry.
5.Trim off the ends close to the knot.
6. Choose your beads; odd numbers work best as does using beads with slightly different shapes. Put each bead on a headpin.
7.Make a plain loop in each headpin. If you aren’t sure how to do this, or would just like a bit of a refresher, then pop over to this post that goes through it step by step!
8.Open up a loop, hook onto the thread covered link and close it back up. The best way to to do this is to treat them just like you would open and close a jump ring
9.Repeat with the other headpins until the are all attached.
10.Add on a fishhook with a jump ring to finish the first earring!
11.Repeat all steps to make the second earrings, making sure that you add the beads in the same order as you did for the first earring in step 9.
