Make a stylish statement with this simple crochet chain rope necklace. You can use any chunky cord, yarn or rope and no hook is required. The stitch, also known in macrame as a monkey braid, will be familiar to anyone who has done a bit of crochet.
You will need-
-50 cm chunky cord; I’m using a 550 paracord which is 5mm in diameter, but any material 3mm plus will work including my 4mm Macrame Cord
-2x 30cm of chain, 1x clasp and 2x 5mm jump rings
-2x 7mm fold over cord ends
-Chain-nose pliers
How to
1. If you already know how to crochet chain stitch, chain about 5 or 6 and meet us in step 5! If not, read on! Create a loop by bringing the right side down and up over itself.
2.Still working with the right end of the cord, bring it back down behind the loop you made in step 1. It should look like a pretzel!
3.Pull up the same section of cord up through the middle of the pretzel shape just enough to form another loop.
4.Tighten the knot, leaving the loop you created in step 3.
5.Repeat steps 2 & 3, bringing the long end of cord behind the loop and pulling it up to form a new loop another 5 or 6 times.
6.Form the knotting into a curve and trim off the ends
7. Attach a fold over end to each side and use a jump ring to fasten the chain.
8. Fix a clasp to the other ends of your chain and you are done!
