Get the look of ceramic drawer pulls with this low cost DIY!
I have been coveting all the beautiful painted porcelain and ceramic drawer pulls and knobs that are around at places like Anthropologie. I wanted to update an old Ikea unit with some, but having 8 drawers, it was going to cost me nearly £50! Eeeps. So I came up with this DIY version for less than £8!
You will need:
-Drawer knobs I used 25mm plain wood
-White paint/primer
-Blue gloss paint (I used Rustoleum Painters Touch in Sea Blue)
– Metallic paint (I used Rustoleum Painters Touch in Bronze)
-Brushes
-Fine sandpaper
-Pencil and Eraser
How To:
1. Paint the knobs white, using either a basic white acrylic paint or spray primer. I used an old chopstick to make it easier to hold on to!
2.Once dry, use some fine wet and dry sandpaper to smooth the surface and then apply a second coat of paint.
3.Mark the centre of the knob with a pencil.
4.Draw out your design lightly, starting by dividing the surface into quarters, then dividing each quarter again. Scallop the edges to create a petal-like design.
5. Using a fine painters brush ( I used a number 5/0) to apply the blue paint. Leave to dry.
6.Paint a circle of metallic paint in the centre to look like the metal fixings of traditional ceramic pulls.
7. Once dry, use a clean eraser to remove any pencil marks and you are done! You may want to put a coat of spray varnish over to protect them, especially if they will be used regularly, but I liked the contrast between the matt white and gloss of the blue and bronze.
