These DIY Halloween Feather Earrings are quick and simple to make and perfect for those of us who prefer slightly less garish choice of Halloween accessory!
You will need:
-2 x Coloured feathers*
– 2 x Fold over cord ends
– 2 x Fishhook earrings
– Metallic Paint Marker Pen* (or liquid paint and a paint brush)
– Chainnose pliers and cutters
How to make:
1.Choose two feathers with equal amounts of feathery-ness on them
2.Trim off the hard quill with cutters so you only have about 5mm left.
3.This next bit gets messy, so cover your work area and yourself! Take a metallic paint marker and prime the nib until the paint is flowing. Then flick the paint onto the feathers!
4.Keep going until you are happy with the amount of paint coverage. Leave to dry. One of the reasons I like using the paint pens is that they dry within a couple of minutes. You can get the same effect by using liquid paint and a paintbrush, but it usually takes longer to dry.
5.Place the end of one feather in a fold over cord end, with the painted side of the feather face down.
6.Use chainnose pliers to secure the end on the feather (see my detailed post on how to use fold over cord ends here).
7.Then open up the loop on your fishhook earrings and attach the fold over end. Repeat with the other feather.
